In a significant move towards enhancing intra-African travel and promoting unity, Rwanda has declared visa-free entry for all Africans. President Paul Kagame made this announcement during the 23rd Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council held in Kigali. He emphasised the importance of Africa as a unified tourism destination, stating that any African can travel to Rwanda without visa charges.

This decision positions Rwanda alongside other African nations like Gambia, Benin, and Seychelles, which have already removed travel restrictions for fellow Africans. Additionally, Kenya’s President William Ruto also revealed plans to allow visa-free travel for all Africans to Kenya by December 31. The aim is to foster free movement, trade, and business across the continent, aligning with the African Union’s vision for continental integration.

The African Union’s initiative to introduce an African passport and promote the free movement of people within the continent is a vital step towards breaking down barriers and enhancing economic development. While challenges remain, these efforts signify a shared commitment among African nations to create a united and prosperous Africa, where individuals and businesses can move freely, fostering collaboration and mutual growth.
