Emphasizing the need to identify the root causes of military insurrections, President Akufo-Addo stressed that comprehending these underlying issues is pivotal in effectively combating the security threats menacing the democratic fabric of the ECOWAS bloc.
Addressing the 2nd ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar held in Winneba, Central Region, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the imperative mission of the seminar, stating, “Brainstorming on all these major challenges…is the imperative mission of this seminar. One of the expected outcomes is to help us understand even better the root causes of democratic regression and political instability in the region in order to better address them.”
The President underscored the importance of preserving democratic values, asserting that the entire African continent must not regress on its hard-won democratic progress. He highlighted the seminar’s role in proposing measures that reinforce democratic and republican values among political elites and citizens within the ECOWAS community. These measures, he asserted, are crucial for safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
