Yango Delivery Launches Cargo Express Feature to Enhance Urban Logistics in Africa

Yango Delivery, an African logistics startup, has introduced a new feature called Cargo Express aimed at improving the delivery of large and oversized items across the continent. This initiative addresses challenges in the logistics sector, such as unclear pricing and operational inefficiencies.

Initially available in major metropolitan areas like Accra, Abidjan, and Lusaka, Cargo Express offers several advantages for customers. These include assistance with moving items and ten minutes of free loading and unloading time, resulting in a more efficient service.

Accessible through the Yango app’s Delivery section, Cargo Express provides access to a fleet of vehicles tailored for transporting large and heavy items. The feature also boasts a transparent pricing system, ensuring customers are charged the presented rate at the time of order placement. Additionally, customers can track their deliveries in real-time using the in-app map and receive push notifications about delivery status updates.

Ireoluwa Obatoki, Head of Business Development for Africa at Yango Delivery, spoke of the company’s commitment to leveraging technology-based solutions to enhance urban delivery operations. He highlighted Cargo Express as a significant step in this direction, addressing the growing demand for reliable delivery services capable of handling bulky items.

The launch of Cargo Express not only benefits customers but also creates new income opportunities for local partners and couriers associated with logistics companies. It also ensures pricing transparency within Africa’s delivery market.

Obatoki explained that the rising trend of online shopping underscores the need for dependable delivery services for bulky items, which Cargo Express aims to fulfill.

This new feature complements Yango’s existing range of services, which include ridesharing (Yango), motorbike delivery for light packages (Yango Delivery), and food delivery (Yango Deli), all consolidated within a single application.

In December 2023, Yango partnered with telecommunications giant MTN to improve the working conditions of its drivers by providing free data packages. Additionally, in February 2024, the company raised its ride-hailing fares by 23% to support drivers amid economic pressures, aiming to improve their standard of living.
