The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. This transition to a CBT format is set to begin with the 2024 First Series WASSCE for private candidates.

The CBT-based mock examination for the 2024 First Series WASSCE for private candidates was held on January 23 and 24. It is open to all prospective candidates, and they can access the mock examination portal from their mobile phones or personal computers. Candidates will have the opportunity to access the mock examination page a second time if the first attempt fails.

Information containing login details for registered candidates will be sent to their respective email addresses and phone numbers after registration closes. Additionally, a tutorial video on how to use the examination portal will be made available on social media platforms.

This move by WAEC represents a significant shift towards modernising and digitising the examination process. Candidates are advised to prepare by honing their computer skills in preparation for the CBT-based WASSCE.

It’s worth noting that while the objective test will be fully computer-based, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid, with examination questions delivered on screen, and candidates required to write their answers on provided answer booklets.

This transition to a CBT format aligns with global best practices and reflects the ongoing digital transformation in education and assessment methods.
