Romania Making Efforts to Convince Romanians Living Abroad to Return Home

The authorities in a major city in Romania are making efforts to convince Romanians living abroad to return to the country.

In this regard, an innovative project has been launched: to build a new street from scratch, which will be dedicated to them.

The Oradea City Hall, as this city is called, will build a street where Romanians living abroad will have the opportunity to bid for a 500 square meter plot of land at prices below market value.

Of course, they will only be able to bid under certain conditions, one of which is to have lived abroad for at least the last five years, according to Observator.

The Oradea City Hall is putting thousands of square meters at stake for Romanians living abroad.

Through this project, the Oradea City Hall is putting up 7,000 square meters for the construction of this street with plots for Romanians who want to return to the country.

The authorities are considering an auction for 10 plots of 500 square meters each, with a starting price for concession of 2,500 euros per year for the entire land area. However, for this, Romanians returning from the diaspora must meet certain conditions.

“Those who can participate in the auction must guarantee that they have lived abroad for the last five years, that they have had an activity from which they have earned income in the last three years, also abroad,” says Octavian Haragoș, from the Oradea City Hall.

The Diaspora Street will be 400 meters long, with two lanes of traffic, and will cost 1.5 million lei. Already 22 people want to participate in the auction. The Oradea authorities aim through this initiative to increase the workforce and are already thinking of a Diaspora neighbourhood, spread over several hectares.
