Officials Announced for Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023

The Confederation Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has unveiled the panel of match officials for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

Why is the CAF Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) 2023 in 2024?
This edition of the tournament was initially planned to be the third since 2019 to take place during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, in order to reduce scheduling conflicts with European club teams and competitions. However it was postponed by CAF to 13 January – 11 February 2024 on 3 July 2022 due to the adverse summer weather concerns in Ivory Coast, whilst retaining the edition’s original name for sponsorship purposes. This followed the 2021 edition in Cameroon also being moved to the Northern Hemisphere’s winter season for similar reasons. Source: Wikipedia

This esteemed list of 68 officials features seasoned referees and assistant referees hailing from various regions of Africa. These officials boast significant experience garnered from previous CAF international competitions.

Among the designated officials, there are 26 referees, 30 assistant referees, and 12 VAR referees who will preside over the tournament scheduled to occur in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13th to February 11th.

To ensure the preparedness and proficiency of the selected officials, a comprehensive refresher course awaits all referees upon their arrival in Cote d’Ivoire on January 5th, 2024. This course will encompass both physical and theoretical assessments, refining and evaluating their skills ahead of the tournament.
