Accor has marked a significant milestone in West Africa with the opening of the Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa in Benin. This luxurious 198-room hotel, situated in Cotonou, the economic hub of the country, underscores Accor’s ongoing commitment to expanding its presence across Africa. The hotel is located close to major attractions, including the Esplanade des Amazones and Route des Pêches, and is set within a 29-hectare natural park, providing guests with exceptional views of the ocean and city.
The Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa is Benin’s first five-star hotel, boasting 198 rooms, including 14 suites and 5 Duplex Suites equipped with private pools. The property will also open four bars and restaurants between September and December 2024, adding a French flair to the hotel’s culinary offerings, a hallmark of the Sofitel brand.
Key features of the hotel include a 1,000 m² spa with five treatment rooms, a duo room, and an indoor pool. The spa promises a unique wellness experience, using high-quality KOS Paris products as well as a custom-made Origin Ritual developed with locally sourced organic products in partnership with the Beninese brand Kaël. Additionally, the Sofitel Cotonou Marina offers the largest convention center in Cotonou, with a capacity to host up to 700 people, positioning it as a major destination for both leisure and business travelers.
Accor’s expansion across Africa, a continent experiencing rapid urbanization and population growth, is significant. Africa is home to some of the fastest-growing economies, and Accor aims to cater to the region’s rising middle class and their increasing demand for both domestic and international travel. This expansion includes notable upcoming projects across the continent, including new Movenpick hotels in Kigali, Rwanda and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as well as other Accor brands such as Novotel, Ibis, and Pullman.
The launch of Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa reflects the brand’s global ambitions as it continues to represent luxury hospitality with its unique blend of French elegance and local culture. Sofitel is part of Accor’s vast portfolio, with over 120 hotels worldwide, and an exciting pipeline of new properties in key locations like Algiers, Cairo, Shanghai, and Riyadh.
The Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa is a major step in positioning Benin as a premier tourist destination in West Africa, aligning with the country’s efforts to promote its rich cultural heritage and develop its seaside and memorial tourism offerings under its new national brand, A World of Splendours.
