Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido made headlines on Tuesday with his announcement of a generous donation of 300 million Naira (approximately $197,000; £156,000) to orphanages across Nigeria. Taking to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, shared his commitment to making this substantial contribution as part of his yearly contribution to the nation.

“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria…as my yearly contribution to the nation..details of disbursement tomorrow,” Davido’s post on X read.

Davido has earned praise and admiration from fans in recent years for his philanthropic endeavors. In 2021, he garnered attention when he mobilized his friends and fans to contribute towards clearing his Rolls Royce from the port. Through a series of posts on X, he managed to collect 200 million Naira, to which he added 50 million Naira of his own, totaling 250 million Naira. This sum was then donated to various orphanages across Nigeria.

Following this act of generosity, Davido established the David Adeleke Foundation the following year, with a continued commitment to supporting orphanages in Nigeria through annual donations.

The announcement of his latest pledge has drawn commendation from many Nigerians online, who view the donation as timely and essential in light of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in the country. Davido’s consistent efforts to give back to his community have not gone unnoticed, and his latest gesture reaffirms his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals in Nigeria.
