The African Development Bank Group is spearheading transformative projects in Cameroon, ranging from road and bridge construction to bolstering the shipbuilding sector. With a significant portion of its portfolio dedicated to transport infrastructure, the Bank is facilitating Cameroon’s journey towards economic prosperity and regional integration.

The recent completion of the Obala interchange stands as a testament to the fruitful partnership between Cameroon and the African Development Bank. This majestic structure, funded by the Bank, addresses traffic congestion issues at a critical junction, enhancing connectivity and safety for motorists. The interchange, part of the Transport Sector Support Programme, underscores Cameroon’s commitment to modernising its infrastructure and fostering economic growth.

Through strategic investments, such as the construction of the road between Yaoundé and Bamenda, the Bank has not only created employment opportunities but also improved transportation logistics, reducing operating costs for vehicles. Furthermore, the Bank’s support extends beyond infrastructure development to include rest areas and community enhancements, positively impacting local livelihoods.

Cameroon’s ambitious infrastructure agenda aligns with the Bank’s “Integrate Africa” strategy, aimed at fostering regional connectivity and economic development. The Bank’s investments in cross-border roads and bridges are facilitating trade and enhancing regional integration, with projects linking Cameroon to neighboring countries such as Congo, Nigeria, and Chad.

During her visit to Yaoundé, Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, Vice-President for Regional Development, Integration, and Business Delivery, inaugurated the Bank’s regional office and reaffirmed its commitment to Cameroon’s development. The Bank’s extensive portfolio in Cameroon, spanning various sectors including energy, agriculture, and territorial development, reflects its dedication to driving transformative change.

Acknowledging the Bank’s pivotal role, government officials lauded its support for integration projects and regional development initiatives. The Bank’s engagement in Cameroon’s fragile regions underscores its commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that no community is left behind.

Looking ahead, the Bank aims to accelerate its operations in Cameroon, doubling its portfolio within the next five years to address pressing socio-economic challenges and improve the lives of the people.
