In a significant move to strengthen ties between the African continent and its global Diaspora, The Africa Center and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) have announced the forthcoming launch of the Afreximbank Africa Diaspora Center (AADC). This initiative aims to bridge gaps in information, opportunity, and investment between Africans on the continent and the African Diaspora, contributing towards a more prosperous future for Africa under the “Global Africa” platform.

The official AADC launch event is set to take place at the 2024 Future Africa Forum on Monday, September 23, 2024, at The Africa Center, located in Aliko Dangote Hall, 1280 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York. The Center will act as a crucial gateway, enhancing the flow of Africa-focused information and providing Africans worldwide with better access to economic opportunities.

A New Era of Engagement

This collaboration aligns with both The Africa Center’s mission to promote engagement with contemporary Africa and Afreximbank’s objective to foster a robust economic force for Africans globally. By connecting the African Diaspora more effectively to the continent, the AADC seeks to harness the power of this community, ensuring that Africans worldwide can engage progressively and transformatively with Africa.

Dr. Uzodinma Iweala, CEO of The Africa Center, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The AADC launch demonstrates The Africa Center’s role in bringing together the ideas, people, and possibilities of Africa. As global attention converges on New York during the United Nations General Assembly, The Africa Center stands as a critical venue for discussions and connections that celebrate African innovation and unity.”

Professor Bennedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, highlighted the urgency of deepening ties between Africa and its Diaspora: “The African Diaspora is becoming an influential economic bloc. The AADC will serve as a gateway to harness African resources for the betterment of all Africans. This is a significant step in our ‘Global Africa’ Agenda.”

Additional Highlights at The Africa Center

In conjunction with the launch, The Africa Center will open the Points of Resonance: Contemporary Photography in Africa exhibition on September 18, 2024, curated by Heba Farid, Zein Khalifa, and Sarah Sarofim. This exhibition will feature works from twelve African and Diaspora artists, exploring themes of colonialism, migration, and identity through photography.

The Future Africa Forum, an invitation-only event, will feature discussions on Africa’s global role, African fashion, live music, and African gastronomy, celebrating the richness of African culture and its Diaspora. For more information, visit theafricacenter.org.
