The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has officially commissioned the multipurpose Borteyman Sports Complex, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s preparations to host its inaugural All Africa Games since independence.

The commissioning ceremony also signified the commencement of a 25-day countdown to Africa’s biggest multi-disciplinary sporting event, scheduled to take place at the Borteyman Sports Facilities and newly constructed venues at the University of Ghana from 8th to 23rd March 2024.

President Akufo-Addo hailed the decision to adopt a hybrid approach to hosting the Games, utilising facilities at the University of Ghana alongside developments in Borteyman. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana’s commitment and resilience have ensured readiness for the event.

Amid calls to withdraw from hosting, President Akufo-Addo affirmed Ghana’s determination to proceed, emphasising the significant sporting infrastructure developed for the Games, which will leave a lasting legacy for the nation.
